Top to Toe in Voodoo Vixen

May has been a really difficult month, marked by what felt like one disaster after another. Just as I had my head above water, another wave would come and push me back down again. Thankfully, I feel like I’ve dragged myself back on to dry land now and I’m shaking off the last of the water. Whilst I am glad that May is over, there were some positives. I got to spend some wonderful days with my family (including our new rescue dog, Lady, who insisted on joining the photos), enjoying good food and sunny weather in various gardens. Absolute bliss.

And with warmer days, come pretty summer dresses. And no one does summer dresses quite as well as Voodoo Vixen. Last year I fell head over heels with Amber, an electric blue, floral beauty (which happens to still be available). This year, I fell in love with Hannah; which is handy, because she’s my wife. But she’s also the adorable polka dot dress from their SS18 collection.

If I am completely honest, I have generally steered away from polka dots for the past few years. After the retro market became flooded with millions of cheap, poorly made polka dot dresses, they became synonymous with tacky fancy dress pinup. Well, in my head they did. Anyhow, Hannah is different! This dress couldn’t be further from the tack I have spent the past few years avoiding.

I was pleasantly surprised by the fabric when the dress arrived. I guess I was expecting a cotton or very light polyester material. However, whilst Hannah is made from 95% polyester, it is a thicker, more sturdy silky material. This means that the dress provides a reasonable level of support and enabled me to go comfortably braless (yes, I am small busted!). The full circle skirt is elegant and skims my ‘problem areas’ and the tie straps are the perfect solution for us ladies who struggle with straps being too long! What more could a lady want from a dress? Oh, yes! Pockets. It has those too!

Hannah pairs wonderfully with the Monroe bag in mint. This super sweet wicker styled heart shaped bag is the ideal size for someone like me, who can’t get away with carrying a clutch bag, thanks to adrenaline syringes etc. Monroe is able to accommodate both of my syringes, phone, purse and keys! The fabric lining keeps everything safely contained and prevents the bag from flying apart when opened. It fastens with a twist lock clasp and features pleather handles.

I topped the outfit off with the seriously sassy Extreme Cat Eye glasses. I sometimes find large sunglasses swamp my fairly petite face but not these. Yet, still big enough to hide my face when I’ve not made an effort with my make up! Winner!

Hannah is available here in UK sizes S to XXL. I am usually a UK 10, which equates to a Medium in VV. In this instance, I was able to size down to a size Small, for a closer fit on the bodice. She is priced at £63.

The Monroe in mint is available here and is also available in red and pink. It is priced at £30.

The Extreme Cat Eye Sunglasses are available here, priced at a very reasonable £13 and are also available in leopard!

Special thanks to Voodoo Vixen for brightening up a miserable month with these beautiful items. You really cheered me up. And finally, thanks to my cousin http://www.jocoates.co.uk for taking these photos for me.
