Last weekend my wife and I put up our Christmas tree. Well, when I say we did, what I actually mean is she did. See, as I’ve mentioned previously, my wife is a festive fanatic. She loves any opportunity to celebrate any kind of holiday. She is VERY particular about how the tree looks and if I dared attempt to decorate it, I could put money on the fact that she would strip the whole thing and redo when I wasn’t looking. As a result, for the peace and harmony of the home, it’s best I let her get on with it.
Anyhow, whilst she was decorating the tree, it got me thinking about what I will wear for the big day this year. And then I came across the perfect solution. Introducing, the Belle dress from Voodoo Vixen. I was instantly drawn to this dress when I first laid eyes upon in at the launch of their AW17 collection. The warm Cadbury purple is the first solid purple item to have ever graced by wardrobe and when I initially found this dress I had pink hair and loved the combination of the pink, purple and black. Now I’m a coppertop I love it just as much. The cut of Belle is step away from my usual full skirted style, however I really love how the simple A-line skirt flares out from the nipped in waist. Given my obsession with bows, the faux belt is a bonus!
The addition of the removable faux fur takes this from a simple, pretty dress to something far more glamorous that oozes winter Princess vibes. The collar and cuffs fasten with small buttons and elastic hooks. I feels it’s a bit of a shame that that buttons are visible even with the fur attached, but don’t feel that it’s enough of an issue to make this dress love me any less. I sadly neglected to take any photos of the dress with the fur removed but I think I’m fairly unlikely to wear it without, since I love it SO much.
I usually go for a Small in Voodoo Vixen (36-28-42), but having tried on the small in this style it was just too tight around the waist and slightly tight across the chest and arms. This dress has very little stretch, so I would suggest sizing up if you are between sizes. Voodoo Vixen kindly exchanged my dress for a Medium, which is far more comfortable! Even on the much looser Medium I found the zip to be slightly problematic, where the invisible zip has to pass over the seam between the bodice and skirt.
Belle is priced at £63 on the Voodoo Vixen website but is only currently available in a Medium and Large. I’m unsure whether they are planning to restock, but I have found alternate stock in UK sz S, M, L and XXL on Ro Rox Boutique for the lower price of £51.99. For you ladies in the US Unique Vintage have stock in size S, M, L and XL.
What will you be wearing on the big day?
